A task I’ve been putting off for a while was cleaning my makeup desk. It was piling up and had makeup I didn’t really use or reach for anymore, and it was just hard to find things.
I wanted to find some new plastic organisers for my malm desk so I did a bit of research and found the IKEA billngen trays were the best fit. But then I found out they were being discontinued which is disappointing but you might still be able to find some in your local store or online. I had to get a few of mine off ebay.
The IKEA malm desk is probably one of the most popular desks people go for as it looks nice, is on the more affordable side and is generally pretty sturdy. Mine has seen better days though as I’ve had it a few years now and its been moved around a lot so it doesn’t seem as strong, plus the top and glass has bowed due to all the heavy stuff I’ve had on it over time.
I do really want to replace it but I haven’t found anything else yet that I’ve loved or is the same size for what I need in this room.
One thing I do really hate about this desk is the drawer, it doesn’t pull all the way out and has a lot of wasted space at the back that you can’t get to.
Because the desk isn’t as sturdy as it once was I wanted to reorganise the drawer and top and to take off some of the weight.
I got 6 billingden trays and they fit in perfectly with a little extra space at the end.
I wanted to have each tray organised into categories so it was easier and also looks nice and tidy.
I started with all my brow and eye products, then my liquid eyeshadows onto my concealers, highlighters and other face products.
It felt good having a clear out and declutter. As I had so much makeup I didn’t use and from looking at the before pictures it was just a mess.
Doing a job like this you have to be ruthless and not keep things that are old or that you know you wont use anymore.
I sorted out all my everyday and most reached for makeup that sits on my desk. You can get these organiser trays from amazon or tk maxx and they’re brilliant for storing all your favourite products. And I love that things are easier to see and reach for.
I added the black spots to this myself but I will have a separate post coming up on my Dalmatian wall that I did myself on my beauty room wall so stay tuned for that.
I love shopping around for storage, I find TK maxx, homesense, B&M and amazon really good for finding bargains.
I felt so much better once I had done all this and a little bit more positive. My beauty room is my happy place but it was getting a little cluttered and I was just letting it go recently with not keeping it tidy. But I found cleaning and organising really therapeutic.
I would love to know where you like shopping for beauty and makeup storage and your organising tips. Let me know in the comments.
