Now that it’s officially spring and summer is almost here I thought this is the perfect time to do this post and talk about highlighters, as I dont know about anyone else but as soon as the weather changes and the sun comes out I’m all about bronzed and glowy skin. If you follow me on social media you will know how much I love dewy skin and illuminating products, I have quite the highlighter collection! I would say highlighters are definitely my weakness and I can’t seem to stop buying them.
This post is a collaboration with Debenhams so I wanted to talk about a few of the products that they stock and that are easily accessible for us makeup junkies, I’m so pleased Debenhams stock Laura Geller, The balm, Kat von D and MUFE to name a few, as a few years ago it was so hard to get these brands in the UK. I also just want to do a mini review of each of these as well, because if you follow me on Instagram and watch my stories you would have seen me talking about these the other day and explaining a little bit about the Debenhams campaign for spring and summer.
I do get really excited about trying new highlighters because I am a massive highlighter junkie, and I think you can always tell if you like the formula and colour of a highlighter straight away. I know I have a lot of fellow beauty blogger friends who love to glow just as much as me, so I hope you enjoy this post.
I got a mixture of highlighters and liquid illuminators to try and I will explain a little bit about how I like to use them, to create a dewy and radiant complexion, Its amazing what you can do with the liquid ones and they are fast becoming my favourite to use.
Every one went mad for this highlighter at one point, it was compared to loads of other limited edition gold highlighters like estee lauder heat wave and mac whisper of guilt.
What I Love about the Laura Geller one is the fact this formula is so soft and intense, although it’s a little bit smaller than a regular compact, a little bit goes a long way! I definitely think this suits more medium to dark skin tones but I’m pale and I just couldn’t resist this.
I have had my eye on this for a while now, so I finally decided to get it, the easy illuminating stick comes in the same shades as the gelato swirl highlighters, but I wanted to try Ballerina as it looked like such a gorgeous rose gold shade. And plus I am trying to stop buying loads of gold highlighters as I do have a lot and wanted more of a variety of shades.
What I love about the stick is that its so easy for on the go and travel, and they give a completely different finish to a powder highlighter to, I have been loving cream and liquid highlighter over the last few months as I think it just looks so much more natural and gives you that glow from within look.
Ballerina is definitely rose gold compared to gilded honey, and I think this will complement my skin tone much better.
Now this brand Buxom has only just launched on the Debenhams website so if you want to try anything I would get in quick as I think its going to sell out pretty quickly, I am so excited about this as it’s another american brand we couldn’t get hold of until now. I can’t believe how big this bottle is for £21, this will last ages!! I have started buying lots of liquid highlighters because I love adding them into my foundation and moisturisers, by doing that it really gives your skin a dewy and gorgeous finish which I think so many of us love for spring and summer, especially us dry skinned girls. This would also be lovely to add to your legs or collar bones if you have faked tanned or are looking a bit bronzed from a recent holiday.
I love this shade as it’s not too gold, I would describe it as champagne sort of gold , its wearable and has a light weight formula and will also suit so many different skin tones, because it’s for both face and body I can see myself using this a lot and it will definitely be coming to america with me!
I am a huge lover of benefit, The watts UP highlighter has been my favourite for years now, it’s a gorgeous champagne gold that’s so wearable and it has such a lovely cream to powder finish, I find its perfect for my dry skin and doesn’t show up any texture of dryness. So I was really looking forward to trying the girl meets pearl liquid highlighter, like I said I’m a little bit obsessed with buying liquids at the moment, and this shade was unlike anything I had in my collection, it’s a gorgeous soft golden pink shade, you can definitely notice the pink tone it has but it’s not too pink. Again this will be beautiful to add to foundations and creams or even wear alone for fresh looking dewy skin, If you like to glow but dont like anything to heavy like foundations etc then these liquid illuminators will be perfect for adding that natural glow to the skin.
So you know I said I was trying to stay away from gold highlighters? well I couldn’t resist this one as its been on my list for ages whoops, ever since they released this in the duo! I’ve never tried any MUFE highlighters so I thought now was the time. first of, I love the design in the pan it’s so pretty to look at, the formula is really soft and smooth, it doesn’t feel rough or look glittery either which is a huge relief as I’m personally not keen on chunky glittery highlighters.
I would say the shade is pretty similar to gilded honey by Laura Geller, so I dont think you would need both, Im finding a lot of the gold highlighters now days are all very similar.
I really want to try the MUFE star lit range next as it all looks amazing!
I only have this highlighter from the balm cosmetics but I definitely want to try more, This was another highlighter that gets raved about, so I was looking forward to trying it out. I think this is perfect for fair, light or even medium skin tones, its a gorgeous pale gold, its more of a lighter gold rather than the warm golds like gilded honey and MUFE. The formula is really buttery and soft so you just have to be careful not to drop it as it will break easily.
you can see by the swatch it’s really intense so you only need a little bit, this compact will last you forever.
I love applying my powders using Mac fix plus, because I have dry skin, I get a bit paranoid with applying lots of powder to my face so I like to spray my brush with fix plus before applying highlighter, it gives it more of a wet finish rather than looking powdery. I highly recommend that if you suffer with dry skin or texture, I’ve also been adding liquid highlighters first than going over with powder highlighters after. I always add my highlighters to the cheek bones, brow bone, above the brow, down the nose and lastly on the cupids bow, any where the sun would naturally hit is where you would normally highlight, I love fresh and dewy skin that has a natural glow and looks effortless, Im not into this blinding and intense highlight I’m afraid, it’s just not for me.
(just wanted to show how blinding my highlight was at the end of the day although my other makeup looks worse for wear my highlight was still popping!! )
Here I used Benefit girl meets pearl with a tiny bit of watts up over the top.
You can shop all the highlighters I’ve mentioned in this post here
